A new state-of-the-art surgical hub at Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Monastier

Type of construction: Operating block
Project status: Completed
Completion date: September 2024

At Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Monastier, Operamed completed in just seven months a turnkey project for the expansion of the operating block, originally built by the same company, thus confirming a path of design and technological continuity. The intervention, covering a total area of 1,200 sqm, created a new three-level building: the ground floor with a portico dedicated to logistics and access functions, the first floor housing the expanded operating block, and the second floor dedicated to the enlarged changing rooms for staff.

At the heart of the project are two new operating theatres, measuring 47 sqm and 63 sqm respectively, complete with all the necessary support areas such as patient and surgeon preparation rooms, a control room, and a technical room. The intervention also included the design and construction of all the systems serving the theatres, from electrical and mechanical components to medical gas distribution, up to the installation of fixed medical equipment.

Both theatres, built with the Truespace modular system, combine design, innovation, and functionality: the first, of almost 50 sqm, is intended for multidisciplinary activities, while the second, larger one is pre-arranged to become a high-tech hybrid operating theatre capable of accommodating complex diagnostic equipment such as CT scanners and angiographs.

The spaces are finished with Corian Dupont surfaces, technical panels equipped with sockets and medical gases, wall-integrated monitors, custom-made furnishings such as dirty-pass tunnels, automatic sliding doors, and silk-screened glass panels that contribute to a more human and aesthetically refined environment.

The project also includes the supply of all medical equipment, including pendants for anesthetists and surgeons and surgical lights, as well as an advanced video integration system that enables the recording or live broadcasting of operations, supporting training and remote collaboration. Among the innovations, the “Fluid & Touchless” technology stands out, allowing surgeons to manage radiological images without physical contact, thus maintaining the highest standards of sterility. Finally, both operating theatres have been fitted with 2 mm lead shielding, ensuring maximum protection against radiation and full compliance with safety regulations.

The result is a modern, safe, and highly functional surgical hub, designed to meet the needs of the surgery of the future.
