Rehabilitation of the Orthopedics Operating Block – Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli, Rome
Project status: Completed
Completion date: May 2024
Operamed carried out the full rehabilitation of the new orthopedics operating block at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli in Rome. The project involved upgrading five operating rooms and associated support areas, including the scrub room for staff preparation, through a highly specialized intervention designed to guarantee top clinical, engineering, and ergonomic performance.
The entire block was built using the TrueSpace prefabricated system, a high-performance modular solution characterized by superior construction quality, reliable timelines, and seamless integration of systems. The finishes are in Dupont™ Corian®, a material that ensures hygiene, durability, and visual continuity. Each operating room, about 40 m², is equipped with a sealed metal ceiling featuring integrated LED lighting and air diffusion, automatic sliding doors, technical modules, and wall-mounted integrated monitors, along with touch control panels for centralized operation. The intervention also included aesthetic enhancements such as custom wall serigraphy and a dedicated lighting concept, designed to support every phase of surgical activity with proper visual ergonomics.
For the technological component, state-of-the-art medical devices by Baxter were integrated, including Truport modular suspension lamps, the Helux Pro LED surgical lamp, and the Helion video integration system.
To complete the project, the Nicfa® Airflow Ultra system was deployed — a laminar flow ceiling module engineered to maintain ISO5 compliance. The system continuously monitors all key air quality parameters via advanced sensors and dynamically adjusts airflow to sustain optimal performance. A built-in cloud-hosted repository enables automatic generation of a digital environmental logbook for audit and accreditation purposes.
This project exemplifies Operamed’s ability to deliver solutions to Italy’s leading hospital hubs, merging technology, design, and functionality into a coherent and high-performing construction vision.
