Focus Hospital, Rome: renovation of the orthopedic operating block

Operamed delivered the complete refurbishment of the new operating block dedicated to Orthopaedics at the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital Foundation in Rome.

The project involved the refurbishment of five operating rooms and their related support areas—including the scrub room for staff preparation—through a highly specialized intervention designed to ensure the highest clinical, technical, and ergonomic performance.
The entire operating block was built using the TrueSpace prefabricated system, a high-performance modular solution characterized by superior construction quality, reliable execution timelines, and full integration of building services. Finishes were executed in DuPont™ Corian®, a material that ensures hygiene, durability, and visual continuity.
Each operating room, approximately 40 m² in size, is equipped with a sealed metal ceiling with integrated LED systems for lighting and air distribution, automatic sliding doors, technical wall modules, and wall-integrated monitors, as well as touchscreen control panels for centralized and simplified management of operating functions.
The intervention also included innovative aesthetic elements, such as custom wall screen prints and a dedicated lighting design concept, developed to support each phase of the surgical procedure with optimal visual ergonomics.
From a technological standpoint, state-of-the-art medical equipment by Baxter was integrated, including Truport modular ceiling-mounted service units, the Helux Pro LED surgical lighting system, and the Helion video integration system.
Completing the project is the supply of the Nicfa® Airflow NAF-H system, a laminar flow ceiling designed to ensure ISO 5 environmental conditions. The system continuously monitors all key air parameters through an advanced sensor infrastructure and dynamically adjusts airflow rates to maintain consistent performance.
An integrated cloud-based repository also enables the automatic generation of the digital environmental record, supporting audits and accreditation processes.
This project reflects Operamed’s ability to effectively meet the needs of leading Italyn healthcare facilities, combining technology, design, and functionality within a single, cohesive construction vision.
